Imagine the following situation. You wake one morning after a rough night. The insomnia kicked in last night and you feel lousy. You know I’m always telling you to have the best day you possibly can, even when you haven’t slept well. But today, this is going to be extra tough…
But then, at breakfast, a time-traveller, or an angel, or a psychic (or someone who means something to you) visits you with the gift of some important news:
Today is going to be the best day of your life!
The messenger then leaves you.
Now just think of the way you go about your day, having received this news? Undoubtedly, you would walk around as if on a cloud, happy, expectant, absolutely relaxed and accepting of whatever came along. The morning’s tiredness is completely forgotten. You would focus on all the good things that occurred, and bad things, if they turned up, would seem unimportant and trivial.
Because after all, today is going to be the best day of your life!
At bedtime, you reflect on the day you have had. What a great day that was! One in which the world just seemed sunnier, the atmosphere lighter, colours brighter.
But…as you prepare for bed you realise: While it was a good day, a great day, it wasn’t the best ever.
What went wrong?
At that point, the psychic/angel/time-traveller appears again with some different news: they made up the business about the ‘best day ever’. The day turned out to be a good one, simply by virtue of your being told this information.
All of the goodness you saw in this day was of your own making; it was down to your own outlook, your own expectations, your own ‘letting everything be okay’.
You did that…
And their actual gift to you…?
It is this knowledge: you can make every day as good as this one, or better, by simply setting out with the same expectations.
When insomnia has stolen your night, don’t allow it to rob you of your day.
